Ohio Stops Issuing New NRA Foundation License Plates
From an email from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles:
Thank you for the opportunity to assist you with your inquiry. The National Rifle Association organizational plate is no longer available effective January 15, 2009.
Ohio Revised Code Section 4503.511 and 4503.77(B)(1), states “The Registrar shall send written notice to the organization informing if, during any calendar year the total number of motor vehicle registrations involving a particular type of nonstandard license plates does not meet the minimum sales requirements including new registrations and registration renewals. The Registrar of motor vehicles, on or after the first day of January, but not later than the fifteenth day of January of the following year, shall send written notice to the organization informing them of this fact. The Registrar also shall inform the organization that if, during the calendar year in which the written notice is sent, the total number of motor vehicle registrations involving the organization’s nonstandard license plate again is less than the minimum sales requirements the organization will be terminated on the thirty-first day of December of the calendar year in which the written notice is sent.”
The Registration Section has identified the National Rifle Association organization as one that has sold less than 500 plates during the 2008 year. Ohio citizens that currently own the license plate may continue to renew them. However, Ohio is no longer issuing new or replacement NRA plates.
Thank you again for this opportunity to assist you. If you have any further questions or comments, please feel free to call the Ohio BMV Registration section at 1-800-589-8247 or visit us online at http://www.oplates.com/.
